Financial Support

There are three types of funding available to those pursuing Unsalaried courses.

  • Tax-free bursary or scholarship
  • Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan
  • Extra financial support (if you're a parent, have an adult dependant or a disability)

In some circumstances, trainees may be eligible to receive all three.

Those on Salaried courses are not eligible for these means of financial support.

Bursary or Scholarship

Applicants with a degree of 2:2 or above in any subject may be eligible to receive a bursary or scholarship.

Learn more about the bursary and scholarship offer for 2021-22.

While you must apply directly to the relevant professional body for scholarships, you do not need to apply for a bursary. Eligible trainees enrolled on a non-salaried course will begin receiving payments automatically.

If you meet Student Finance England’s eligibility criteria, you may be able to receive a Tuition Fee and/or Maintenance Loan while you study.

Tuition Fee Loans are available for the full cost of course fees of up to £9,250. Maintenance Loans provide up to £12,010 for living costs.

Once you accept a place on an unsalaried course, you can apply for either or both of these loans through Student Finance England.
